Hei Āhuru Mōwai sets out fourteen tikanga for supporting Māori Masters, PhD and post-doctoral students: scholarships at a living wage level, a tikanga allowance matched to the project, office and lab space alongside other Māori students, access to Māori supervisors and a tuakana/teina programme, and whānau welcomed into the study space.

Five ask more of the institution itself – resource your Māori departments, ensure research funding is equitably distributed and Te Tiriti o Waitangi compliant, and review critically whether a kaupapa belongs with you or with Whare Wānanga Māori.
