A proud descendant of Te Whakatōhea, Janell has a background in Māori public health, systems and operations, and Māori development. Her roots deeply influence her professional ethos and commitment to the advancement of indigenous sovereignty and the pursuit of social justice.

Janell is a graduate of The University of Auckland's school of Population Health with vast sector experience with the likes of Hāpai te Hauora, Te Runanga o Ngāti Whātua and Ngā Rangatahi-ā-Iwi. She is a staunch advocate for Māori wellbeing and health equity in Aotearoa and beyond, and an ardent advocate for the aspirations of whānau, hapū, and iwi, underpinned by a belief in the empowering role of Māori public health as a facilitator of wellbeing.

Her approach embodies a deep respect for the mana motuhake of Māori communities, shaping their lives and futures with autonomy and sustainability.
